Relief, Donation, and Matching Grants for Hurricane Sandy

Public Private Partnership to Meet Nation's Need

As you know, we requested all of you to provide us with suggestions about how the funds matched via this effort should be distributed. We are pleased to tell you that we have had a significant number of suggestions come through the form. We have found that more than 80 percent of the suggestions have told us that the donations should go to Occupy Sandy.

Only a few of you told us that the funds should go to the Red Cross. Considering the fact that the Red Cross has received significant funding through other sources of donation, we have decided that almost all of the funds will go to Occupy Sandy. We will leave some funds for other future relief efforts. We will keep the form open for additional feedback.

Hurricane Sandy, the largest storm to hit the East Coast in recorded memory, made landfall in New York and New Jersey on October 29 with devastating effects. more than 80 fatalities have been reported in the United States alone and millions are without power. New York City bore the brunt of the storm, which crippled its transportation systems, flooded parts of Queens, Manhattan, Long Island, and Brooklyn and caused widespread power failures. Damages from hurricane Sandy are expected to surpass $50 billion. More important, many many lives are disrupted and devistated by this storm.

This site is created to highlight public private partnership in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. The site is set up by Ezfire a company that is dedicated to digital inclusion and accessible design. The primary goal of this site is to solicit donations from individuals and businesses in matching grant style. Business contributions will be matched with individual contributions to double the relief provided to the victims of hurricane Sandy. EZFire will begin this process by dedicating $100,000 for a matching contribution. Each dollar of donation will be matched by EZFire up to $100,000.

We welcome contributions from other businesses for matching donations. See our donation page to find out how contributions can be made. Each week, EZFire will combine individual and business contributions and donate the money to the top five relief charities of your choice.

Visit our businesses page to see all the businesses who have contributed to this effort. We will also highlight the top ten business and individual contributors on the home page.
